Since March 2014 hospitals and emergency departments have been required to report any suspected opioid overdoses to RIDOH inside forty eight hours. These information have allowed RIDOH to take a look at overdose activity in every group on a weekly foundation and establish information trends and abnormalities. Through this knowledge evaluation, thresholds for native warnings were established and a system for alerting native leaders was developed. Rhode Island Overdose Action Area Response (ROAAR) public health advisories are despatched to first responders and municipal leaders to alert them of an increase in overdose exercise inside a seven-day interval.
